Unsolicited advice.

Holy crap yes. So many people tell me I should get a breast reduction, completely unasked for. Literally, I have had this conversation:

“Wow, you have big boobs. What size ARE you?”
“Erm, 34F, I think”
“That’s too big. Get a reduction.”

And that was before I got properly fitted. Imagine the reaction if I said I’m a 30JJ?

Even if it isn’t completely out of the blue, you don’t just tell someone to get a reduction. Sure, she might say it’s hard to find clothes, but tall men also have that problem and nobody tells them to “just cut your legs off”. Which is a slightly extreme example…but reduction surgery IS a big surgery, with many risks and implications, and in many cases, one you have to pay for out of pocket. Even if she complains of back pain, there is a very high likelihood it’s because she need re-fitting - breasts may be heavy, but for the vast majority of busty women, a well-fitting bra completely eliminates back pain. I just don’t understand why this “advice” is thrown so easily. I would never walk over to someone and say “Wow, your boobs are tiny! You should get breast implants”. It would be considered very offensive and presumptuous of me. Why does breast reduction get a free pass?

I’m not sure where this ramble is going, but next time you have the urge to tell a busty lass that all of her problems will magically disappear by cutting a part of herself off, please think about what you are saying to her. For all you know, she could love her breasts. Telling a woman to get a reduction is telling her that her body is wrong, whether she likes it or not, and it can be absolute hell on the self-esteem. The first step for back pain should always be to check for signs of a poor fit, and 95% of the time the problem will be that she’s in the wrong size. Which, by the way, I am still here to help with, if anyone wants help working out their bra size.

Of course, if she wants a breast reduction surgery for her own reasons, that’s completely fine. That is her choice, and a perfectly valid one. But let me tell you, you will not be giving anyone any new information by saying “just get a reduction”. I highly doubt any busty woman is unaware of their existence, and if it’s right for her, she may well get one. But, even if you know someone who has had one, you shouldn’t just assume she wants one, and you shouldn’t assume she wants your “advice”.

*This is, of course, ignoring the case of you being a medical professional and the woman having some sort of life-threatening medical condition that absolutely necessitates surgery.

Easily 90% of why growing up, 5’1” with DDs, was a bit frustrating, especially with close female friends and family members who are not as busty and suggest you get a reduction since you complain about how you don’t fit into the idealistic beauty society imposes on you.

Damn it I’m not going to lob these beauties off, the clothing stores are gonna need to make a top that looks flattering on us big chested lovelies.
